This blog has been re-purposed!

And just in time! How boring could one blog be? This wonderful new photo class I'm taking with Kat Sloma, "Finding Your Eye," requires a place for a photojournal and this little blog is just the perfect place. Yes, Virginia finally has a real role in my life. Kat has challenged us to first define what it is about photography that interests us, and I'm particularly intrigued by the reasons she defines as "internal" that make us want to take photographs. I think a lot of my motivation is internal. I wanted to approach an undertaking with which I had little recent experience. I wanted a passion that would challenge me to grow and to learn. And I want to learn a lot. I've always been fascinated by photography and by photos. I notice that when I buy art, it's usually photographic art or pottery. I love them both and I want to surround myself with them. I love good photographs. I love light. Color. Or lack of color. I love post-processing. I love photo equipment and what it does. I love talking photography. I love taking pictures. I love that my daughter is also a photographer and my son is a filmmaker, although he's getting into some still shots now, too. What I don't have is a lot of experience and I don't have a lot of time. I want to hear how others work taking pics into their schedules. And I have a tremor. It's just a medical thing. I had to stop doing pottery because of it and I told myself that I could work around it in photography by using a tripod a lot of the time, but then I don't always do that, but I know that to get well-focused shots, I'm going to have to and I hope that you'll all be very honest in letting me know how you feel that affects my photos overall. So, here's my photojournal, all set up. No photos to put in today, except for the header photo which is one of my favorites. It's the arm of my great-grandmother's rocking chair and I love the light on it. I intend to get busy and do these assignments and look forward to seeing everyone else's. Good luck to us all; this is going to be great!

  1. My father was struggling with shakey hands. I can't find the link now, but we found a wire coil that works with the tripod mount. When you get ready to shoot handheld, you pull out the wire and stand on it, pulling the wire tight. It isn't perfect, but it definitely helped him.

Love your photo. The warmth of the wood and the simplicity. Beautiful!
